Good morning everyone,
I’m Yanwei Hu, the Aluminum Alloys Technical Expert at Cymber Metal. After many years working with aluminum in our production lines and helping customers solve real engineering problems, I’m happy to take over the series and share everything I know about our aluminum alloy products.
Aluminum alloys are incredibly versatile — lightweight, strong, corrosion-resistant, and easy to machine. In 2026, with the continued push for lightweighting in EVs, renewable energy structures, aerospace, and industrial automation, aluminum remains one of the most in-demand materials worldwide. At Cymber Metal, we stock and process a full range of aluminum alloys, from standard plates and bars to complex custom CNC machined parts.
This guide is written from the workshop perspective. I’ll cover the main alloy series we work with, the specific product forms we supply (rods, square bars, plates, busbars/profiles, hex bars, and custom CNC parts), real applications, and practical advice I’ve gathered from daily production.
Aluminum Alloy Series We Supply at Cymber Metal
We work with all major wrought aluminum series. Here’s a practical overview:
| Series | Main Alloying Element | Key Properties | Typical Product Forms We Supply | Common Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1xxx | Pure Aluminum | Highest conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance | Plates, strips, busbars | Electrical, chemical equipment |
| 3xxx | Manganese | Good formability, moderate strength | Sheets, coils, profiles | Roofing, heat exchangers |
| 5xxx | Magnesium | Excellent corrosion resistance, marine grade | Plates, sheets, marine profiles | Shipbuilding, offshore structures |
| 6xxx | Mg + Si | Excellent extrudability, good strength | Rods, square bars, hex bars, profiles | Architectural, automotive, structural |
| 7xxx | Zinc | Highest strength | Plates, forged parts, high-load bars | Aerospace, tooling, high-stress parts |
Quick Recommendation from the Shop: For most general industrial and architectural projects, 6xxx series (especially 6061 and 6063) is our bestseller — great machinability and extrudability. For marine or highly corrosive environments, we strongly recommend 5xxx series (5083/5086).
Our Main Aluminum Product Forms
At Cymber Metal, we supply the following standard and custom forms:
- Aluminum Rods– Round bars in various diameters and lengths, ideal for machining shafts, pins, and fittings.
- Aluminum Square Bars – Perfect for structural supports, frames, and precision machined components.
- Aluminum Plates & Sheets – From thin sheets to thick plates up to 300mm, widely used for bases, panels, and molds.
- Aluminum Busbars & Profiles– Custom extruded profiles and busbars for electrical distribution and architectural applications.
- Aluminum Hex Bars – Popular for fasteners, fittings, and hexagonal machined parts.
- Custom CNC Machined Aluminum Parts– From simple brackets to complex 5-axis components.

-
Real-World Applications We Serve
From our daily orders, aluminum alloys are used in:
- Electric Vehicles– Battery trays, motor housings, structural frames (mostly 6xxx).
- Aerospace & Defense– High-strength 7xxx plates and machined parts.
- Marine & Offshore– 5xxx plates and profiles for shipbuilding.
- Architectural & Construction– Extruded profiles and busbars for facades and windows.
- Industrial Machinery– Rods, plates, and custom CNC parts for automation equipment.
- Renewable Energy– Solar panel frames and wind turbine components.

-
Machining Tips from the Shop Floor
- 6xxx series machines beautifully with standard carbide tools.
- 5xxx series is slightly gummy — use sharp tools and good coolant.
- 7xxx is harder — needs rigid setups and coated tools.
- Always consider heat treatment (T6, T651, etc.) when designing — it dramatically affects final strength.
Engineering Experience: In a recent EV battery tray project, we helped a customer switch from steel to 6061-T6 aluminum. By optimizing wall thickness and adding strategic ribs, we reduced weight by 48% while maintaining required stiffness. The customer was very happy with both performance and cost.
Final Thoughts
Aluminum alloys offer the perfect balance of lightweight, strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability — making them ideal for modern industrial and high-tech applications.
